Phil Chapman
Head of the Cybersecurity Curriculum,
Firebrand Training
Phil spent 23 years in the RAF, initially working on telecommunications systems and security before becoming an Intelligence Analyst (voice). During his military career he conducted postings and detachments in Berlin, UK-based SIGINT sites, Germany, Cyprus and the Middle East in support of Signals Intelligence, Electronics Intelligence and Human Intelligence operations. He spent 5 years as a military instructor at JSC Chicksands where he instructed tri-service and UK Government security services in SIGINT, HUMINT and TECHINT operations and analysis.
He ended his career in 2007 after a 3-year secondment working as a counter terrorism analyst for a multi-agency organisation in central London where he worked alongside UK CTUs, Intelligence and security services, SO13, ACPO TAM and foreign intelligence and law enforcement agencies across the UK and Middle East.
He became a training consultant for a Microsoft Academy in 2007 focussing on systems and infrastructure security and then as a freelance consultant working alongside MoD, DoD and commercial organisations within the UK and across Europe. He joined Firebrand in 2015 as an Infrastructure and Security instructor and part of the cybercrime project development team which he now leads. He is now the Head of the Cybersecurity Curriculum for apprenticeships and SME for cybersecurity at Firebrand and retains his training credentials as a certified instructor for Microsoft (MCT), CompTIA, EC Council (CEI) and BCS.
He is instrumental in courseware design and development and has produced several bespoke cyber courses in support of the Level 3, 4 and 6 Apprenticeships and the current cybercrime portfolio at Firebrand.
He maintains regular contact with law enforcement officers he has taught and has provided technical support to several Protect, Prevent and Pursue teams across the UK over the years.
Phil regularly gives presentations and briefings and attends cybersecurity seminars. He also writes cybersecurity related articles for industry and security-specific websites, magazines and newspapers.
He has a wide range of infrastructure security and cybersecurity vendor credentials which include Microsoft, EC Council, CompTIA and BCS certification.
