Kat is a highly experienced policy advisor on data protection and information governance, cyber security and information and telecommunications technologies, in a both national and international security context. In 2023 Kat founded Dataprivacyrules.com, a training provider for personal data processing in the public sector. She is a strong believer in the power of education to support the public sector in striking the right balance between privacy and public duty. Kat specialises in training on personal data processing for law enforcement purposes in relation to preventing, detecting, investigating and prosecuting crime. Kat joined the Scottish Government in 2020 as the Head of Information Governance and Data Protection within the Social Security Directorate. She is currently responsible for the personal data application across all technical solutions of one of the largest and most complex digital transformation programmes in the UK: Social Security Scotland. Prior to joining the Scottish Government, Kat worked in various Departments in the UK Government and represented the UK Government at EU level and various UN fora, leading discussions on cyber security, law enforcement cooperation and the operational application of the law.
