Mr. Bernardo Mariano Junior, Chief Information Technology Officer (CITO), Assistant Secretary- General of the United Nations Office of Information and Communications Technology, was appointed by the Secretary-General on 1 June 2021. ASG Mariano commenced his role as CITO on 1 August 2021. Mr. Mariano has 29 years of experience within the United Nations system and international organizations, most recently serving as the Chief Information Officer and Director for Digital Health and Innovation at the World Health Organization (W.H.O). He started his career in 1993 with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Mozambique and held numerous assignments in eight countries before joining W.H.O. in 2018. During this tenure, he championed several business transformation initiatives, driving innovations, digital transformation, Enterprise Resource Planning systems, program management and overall organizational change to leverage ICT to accelerate the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.
